Sweetgrass is a small company representing the makers of fine baskets of Maine. The works are gathered and shown by Abigail Goodyear at Island Artisans in Bar Harbor and Northeast Harbor, Maine. Island Artisans is entering its 31st season, offering the most complete selection of quality arts and crafts by over 100 of Maine's leading artisans. The galleries are open during the months of May through December.

The collection of baskets is an eclectic one ranging from traditional to contemporary, some functional, others ornamental. They all have in common, however, the finest craftsmanship and the purest of creativity, representing a devotion to the continuation and exploration of an age-old craft.

The group represented here on facebook are works by well-known older Maine Native Americans of the Passamaquoddy, Penobscot, and Micmac tribes, many of them regarded as "masters" of their craft. This collection comprises the older works of these masters and are considered very valuable.
